Rotifers!

Rotifers are the tiniest of zooplankton and while they are often used for the rearing of larvae, they are a wonderful source of HUFA (Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids) for both corals and fish.

Rotifers are pelagic (free-floating) and microscopic. They are ideal for rearing fry and Small Polyp Stony Corals (SPS), as they are very nutritious, . Rotifer bottles can be used in many ways: they can be cultured, a tank can be stocked with them, or they can even be used for directly feeding your corals.

To use rotifers as coral food, either keep your tank stocked with our zooplankton blend and let the corals graze on the rotifers all day, or you can also use it as a direct feeding tool. Mix in any dry coral foods, and use a rotifer phytoplankton blend instead of water to provide the most nutritious blend possible to your corals.

To feed fry, such as clownfish fry, you have two options. The first is to start a small breeding tank and keep it heavily stocked with rotifers, feeding them phytoplankton daily. The alternative is to culture your own rotifers in a separate 5 gallon bucket with a very small air pump. You will be required to sieve (and find and appropriate sieve) the culture as you will not want to introduce water from the culture bucket to your clownfish fry, as it will be full of phytoplankton.
